Corporate to Fractional:

How to land your first fractional client in 90 days

Taught by Nick Cavuoto from both sides of the table: the CEO who hires and the fractional executive who gets hired. Already fractional? Use it to land your next client on better terms.

You'll get the one-page worksheet right away.

You can be very good at your work and still have no idea how to sell it outside a company.

Inside corporate, the title does some of the explaining. Outside, a CEO wants to know what problem you can take off their plate and why they should trust you with it.

That is where fractional leadership starts: owning one leadership problem for two or three companies, instead of every problem for one.

Nobody can refer what they can't repeat, and no CEO can buy what you can't name.

In this session, you'll

Sixty minutes. Four moves. One page.

1Identify one leadership problem a CEO already cares about, and write it as a sentence people can repeat.
2See what earns a CEO's trust before anyone hires you: one result with a number on it, follow-through they can see, and a first conversation where they feel understood.
3Shape an offer with an outcome, boundaries and a price: what to charge, why pricing your hours undersells you, how retainer, rev share and equity compare, and how to keep it from becoming a job with worse benefits.
4Choose the few conversations worth having over the next 90 days, starting now, with people who already know your work. Quietly, and without asking anyone for a job.
Not networking. Not cold outreach.

The 90 days is your plan to land that client. How fast it turns into paid work depends on your experience, the market and the action you take.

The one-page worksheet we fill in together: your problem, your sentence, your number and three people to talk to.

Live Q&A at the end. Bring the question you haven't been able to answer on your own.

Still in the seat, already out, or already fractional?

This session is for all three.

Still employedStart while you're still in the role. It stays quiet: nothing public until you're ready.
Already outWhether it's been three months or eighteen, you don't need another job title to take the next step. Start with the problem you can own.
Already consultingIf your engagements are short and the number is wrong, move 3 is built for you: scope, structure and terms that last.
Any function, if you've held a senior leadership seat, owned a business result and can point to it.
Looking for someone to place you in a role or bring you clients? This session isn't for you.

Nick Cavuoto

“I know both sides of the equation.”

Nick has spent 17 years leading teams and building companies. As a CEO, he built four companies, held the president's seat, made payroll, hired hundreds of people and paid six-figure contracts, some to people who earned them and some to people who didn't. Since 2016 he's also been the fractional executive being hired. Today his engagements run on 12 to 18 month agreements, and every client from the last 18 months is still a client. In this session, he'll show you what the CEO across the table is weighing.

17Years leading and building
4Companies built as CEO
10+Years doing fractional deals
$10,000 to $30,000 a month.

That's the range of Nick's fractional retainers: a monthly fee for owning a problem, not a bill for hours. He'll show you how he sets the number.

Questions

Is this only for marketing leaders?
No. A few of the people Nick has helped go out on their own: Lauren Johnson, a former New York Yankees mental performance coach; Lorin Triln, a former corporate lawyer; Jason Pearl, a former corporate sales manager; and Matt Cooper, a former Apple executive.
Isn't this just consulting?
No. Consultants advise. Fractional leaders own the outcome.
Do I need a website?
No.
Is there a replay?
Yes, for everyone who registers, so register even if the time doesn't work.
Will there be an offer?
Yes. Near the end, Nick spends about seven minutes on how he works with people privately. He'll tell you when it starts and when it ends.
